How do I ensure my baby has a full tummy?

By January 20, 2016Uncategorized

Tip: Adults sleep through hunger, babies don’t

Babies need full meals, not snacks. They are growing and learning so quickly that they burn calories extremely fast. I hear a lot of mom’s say “it feels like I am feeding my baby 24/7”, I respond “you probably are.”

It’s a harsh cycle, when newborn babies begin to eat they instantly become tired, fall asleep or become distracted. Mom thinks they are full and stops feeding, only to have baby become fussy, and acting hungry again after a short time. I’m drained thinking about it! Happy babies need a full tummy each feeding time, which for a newborn (not preemie) is roughly 5-7 times, or every 2.5-3 hours to supply their body’s energy demand. If they only snack you will be exhaustingly feeding them constantly throughout the day with no control or structure.
